On a trip to Sydney with my kids, we were passing by David Jones’s Elizabeth Street store and my little boy started giggling at the window display.
We stopped and I saw that they have recreated a book ‘Reindeer’s Christmas Surprise’.
We had to back track a few windows to get to the start. We then followed the display, reading the story as we went. It’s a lovely story in it’s own right but the window display makes it come alive. The puppets are just brilliant – cute, comic and very well animated.
The book is actually an original book created by David Jones with Australian children’s author Ursula Dubosarsky and Australian illustrator Sue deGennaro. It will be sold exclusively at David Jones with a limited edition reindeer soft toy, $19.95
The puppets are hand crafted by puppeteer David Poulton and will be shown every day and night through to Thursday 25 December.
If, like me, you can’t get the song that plays alongside the windows out of your head, then yes it is the 10cc classic, The Things We Do for Love, but rerecorded for David Jones by Tina Arena. Download it from David Jones Christmas microsite as proceeds will go directly to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
