The Disney Zone featuring Lightning McQueen and Mack The Transporter at V8 Supercars events in Townsville, Ipswich, Sydney, Phillip Island and Sandown is a simple but ingenious solution, giving a day out at the races added value for kids and parents.
We attended the Sydney Motorsport Park SuperSprint event at the Eastern Creek – round 9 of the 2015 V8 Championship on Saturday (232nd August). At the sound of the V8s racing around the track I thought my three year old would burst with excitement but there was only so much looking/listening to V8s my little girl could take! So after an hour or so we got the shuttle bus over to the Disney Zone. Located at the far side of the track. The Disney Zone is complete with real life Lightning McQueen and Mack the Transporter from Disney Pixar’s Cars. There are plenty of other interactive experiences for the kids including: Two Pixar’s Cars bouncy castles; Ice Racers Rink (not real ice but more roller blades on slippery plastic), a tricycle race track and a shaded craft area/ interactive iPad Zone. There is a gated playground on site around which the Disney zone is created. An added extra was that the side of Mack opened up to create a shaded area with spare tyres for the kids to sit on and the DVD of Pixar’s Cars playing aka Radiator Springs Cinema aka Lunch In Peace!
The V8 Supercars Championship is geared for car enthusiasts but creating the Disney Zone means that parents can watch the goings-on at the race track while the kids play safely and relatively contained – especially in the playground which is fully enclosed and had good visibility of the track.
There is lots more to see including an array of V8 super cars, crazy grass covered limos and the Ute Appreciation Society of Australia (or something similar) was there – think pimped up trucks. The Disney Zone was also located near the food stalls – although the choice of healthy kids stuff was, as always, limited at these kind of events. So it was burger, chips and ice cream for us.
Ricks Mobile Slot Cars was a big hit with my kids. The only thing we had to pay extra for but at $3 a go it wasn’t too badly priced.
The Disney Zone is by no means a creche but it’s so close to the track that you can experience a day at the races while your kids are entertained. I would say it’s suitable more towards the over 5s. My 3 year old was a little too short in the leg for the tricycles and the bouncy castles were of the high slide sort, so again, not great for under 3s. However, we still got four hours worth of fun at the event. A great early Father’s Day present for Dad.
The interactive zone, from the hit Disney movie Cars is a unique initiative between The Walt Disney Company, Australia, Mack Trucks, V8 Supercars and the Entertainment Store.
