Medibank Icehouse is the perfect venue for family fun these school holidays and on Saturday 17 January, Icehouse will showcase live ice sports demonstrations and all of their school holiday activities in one spectacular afternoon.
The Medibank Icehouse resident DJ will be there to bust out some seriously cool summer beats, with plenty of giveaways and prizes to be won, and a chance to meet and take a picture with Yeti the mascot!
Visitors will also have the chance to meet superstar ice sport athletes like Olympian speed skater Pierre Boda, ice hockey player for Melbourne Ice Lliam Webster or the incredible 14-year-old figure skater, Lucette Horsfield.
Entry is FREE before 12pm, using the code word ‘Yeti’.
Schedule of events for the day include:
Recreational Skating & Mascots – Skaters can enjoy the lights, sound and fun of skating to the latest music. Resident mascots Yeti and Skater Dude will be roaming the venue for photos and games.
Under 8’s ice play – Mums & bubs jump out onto the ice – no skates required. Plenty of games and fun with the ice ambassadors. Designed to introduce toddlers and young children to the ice without having to strap on skates.
FREE Lesson – One of many FREE skating lessons throughout the day. This 15 minute skating lesson will have skaters learning the basics and skating like a pro in no time.
Wonderballz – Inflatable bubble soccer on ice! Jump in one of our inflatable Wonderballz and take out your friends in a game of british bulldog or put one into the back of the soccer net. No skates needed and anyone 12 and up can play! Birthday parties in action The coolest party in Melbourne! Birthday parties at Medibank Icehouse let kids celebrate with their closest friends in the best fashion possible – on the ice with their own private host!
As well as:
2.15pm: Hockey Skills Session – Star imports and Australia’s own home grown talent show off their ice hockey skills at the home of AIHL Teams Melbourne Ice and the recently crowned 2014 Goodall Cup Champions, the Melbourne Mustangs.
3.00pm: Speed Skating – Recently returned from the Short Track World Cup Circuit, Australia’s speed skating team cut some laps of the Henke Rink, reaching speeds of over 50kmh, only inches off the ice.
3.45pm: Curling – One of the oldest sports in the world, curlers, where you slide a frozen rock down the rink to get the closest to the ‘house’. Similar to lawn bowls just a whole lot more fun for all ages.
4.15pm: Figure Skating Exhibition – Australia’s finest and most talented figure skaters train right here at Medibank Icehouse. From first timers through to Olympians such as Brook-Lee Han, the skill and finesse that is displayed each time a figure gets on the ice is amazing.
5.00pm: Australian Womens Ice Hockey League Womens Hockey Game – Reigning champs Melbourne Ice Womens face off against Brisbane Goannas in the first match back in the 14/15 Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League season. Puck drops on the Henke Rink at 5.15pm.
The Medibank Icehouse Summer Chills and Thrills school holiday program runs until Friday 30th January, 2015.
Entry is FREE before 12pm on Saturday 17 January, 2015 with the code word ‘Yeti’. Entry for all day unlimited skating after 12pm:
- Adult – $26 including skate hire
- Child (6 to 14) – $22 including skate hire
- Child (3 to 5) – $13 including skate hire
- Family (two adults and two children) – $80 including skate hire
