Little Kids’ Day In – Creep, Crawl, Buzz!
Explore the busy world of mini beasts at our next Little Kids’ Day In on Monday 5 September. Discover what lies beneath the leaves and grass in your own backyard with a range of play-based activities and storytelling sessions.
Be a noisy little bug as you play, sing and dance along to our storytelling sessions, create your own creepy-crawly to take home and come face-to-face with some real mini beasts including stick insects, beetles and critters!
Little Kids’ Day in on Monday 5 September will be a fun day especially for kids aged 5 and under, their parents and carers.
STORYTELLING SESSIONS 11.00am, 12.00 & 1.00pm
Learn about caterpillars, spiders and other little critters as you join in these 20-minute storytelling sessions, filled with singing, dancing and group play!
ACTIVITIES 10.00am – 2.00pm
Join our special creepy-crawly guests from the museum’s Live Exhibits and Outreach programs, featuring stick insects, beetles and more! Grab a magnifying glass and be absorbed in an amazing array of Australian insects with this up-close and hands-on encounter.
Take home your very own bug-eyed creation using a paper leaf, some pompoms and a little imagination.
Colour in your own picture of insects using our rubbing stencils and crayons, or let the minibeasts inspire you to create some freehand drawings on black paper.
Get musical with the beautiful Federation Handbells! Create sounds or play a tune using the bells.
Big Blue Bathtub
Watch babies shake, rattle and roll as they explore our paddling pool filled not with water, but with homemade sensory toys!
Test Lab is a temporary pop up maker space. Explore objects in our Shed and design, create and test your own flying objects to launch in our wind tunnels.

Nitty Gritty Super City
Designed specifically for 3-8 year olds, this exhibition allows children to explore science in the city. With new additions you can explore a recycling factory, steer a ship, visit the café and record your own weather report.
