Darling Harbourwill come alive with Christmas cheer when Santa Fest 2014 commences a month-long program of free festivities from Saturday 29 November to Christmas Eve.
Presented by Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, this fifth spectacular festival of Santa Claus will replace the single-night Water Spectacular event of previous years with a jam-packed program of family fun, by day and by night, across the whole month.
The 2014 festival will debut with Santa Movie Nights – free outdoor movie screenings at Darling Quarter Village Green, each Friday night at 6.30 pm (PG-rated films) and Saturdays at 5.30 pm (G-rated films). Films will include The Santa Claus, Home Alone, The Search for Santa Paws, Dr Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas and a special Christmas Eve screening of the classic Miracle on 34th Street.
Santa Paddle Boats will be available for the first time, from the Darling Harbour Marina in front of Cockle Bay. Each foot-peddle paddle boat can seat two adults and two children, and riders will have the chance to paddle up close to the 21 Santas on the Bay – illuminated, five metre tall inflatable Santas.
Visitors will also spot huge Santa inflatables at Harbourside Shopping Centre, Cockle Bay Wharf and other waterfront buildings around Darling Harbour.
The Darling Harbour Santa Fest 2014 Christmas Music Series will feature an eclectic mix of styles including Gypsy Jazz, Rockabilly and Bluegrass, carollers and children’s choirs. The Australian Girls Choir and the Australian Youth Choir are just two of the great acts performing Carols under the Tree at Palm Grove from 7.00pm-9.00pm each Friday and Saturday evening during the festival.
Christmas celebrations wouldn’t be complete without stunning Harbourside Fireworks, which will run from 9.00pm on Saturday 6, 13 and 20 December, and finish with a very special fireworks show exploding above Cockle Bay from 9.00pm on Christmas Eve.
