What were your first thoughts when you found out you were pregnant?
By Tracey Rose
Ok, I mean AFTER you got over the initial excitement or shock!
What thoughts came into your head when you honestly stopped and thought past all the pregnancy glow, baby shower or eating for two stuff?
I don’t know about you, but my mind automatically skipped to … Uh oh! I’m actually going to have to GIVE BIRTH
A thousand scary thoughts automatically popped into my head such as:
How does something the size of a watermelon get out a hole the size of a lemon?
- Will I ever be able to sneeze without peeing again?
- What about “down there” … will I have to get an episiotomy?
- Will I ever want to have sex again?
- OMG! … Can I REALLY do this?
It’s TOTALLY natural to think about all this … In fact I had a total meltdown!
Pain-free natural childbirth
My name is Tracey Rose and a few years ago I experienced a pain-free natural childbirth … even though at first I was TERRIFIED, scared out of my wits & NEVER thought it could happen to me.
I want to share with you the story of how I went from being totally freaked out (because I was sooooo scared of labour) to feeling empowered and experiencing a natural, pain-free childbirth.
I remember that day so clearly because the doctors and midwives were shocked that I wasn’t screaming out in pain, but for me, it was the happiest day of my life!
But to be honest, just nine months prior, I NEVER thought I’d be one of those freaky birth-junkies that talked about “beautiful water-births” and “empowering labors” That was for hippies!
I was NOT going to try and be a hero. All I wanted was a healthy baby.
I mean, it doesn’t matter how it comes out. Right?
I couldn’t understand why I would want to have a natural childbirth when there were medical miracles called EPIDURALS that would block all the pain of childbirth. (Or so I thought!)
Anyway … I had been talking to some friends, who seemed to think it was a great idea to tell me every detail of their traumatic birthing experience …
Seriously, why do people do that?
When I went home I tried to convince myself that it really wouldn’t be that bad. I buried myself in pregnancy books and magazines, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about all the pain I was going to have to endure. I started crying.
My husband came into the room and asked “What’s wrong?”
“How am I going to get through this and cope during labor?” I replied.
He was lovely and comforting, saying encouraging things, but he just didn’t understand the PURE FEAR I was feeling! … then I cried out …
“NATALIE TOLD ME SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS GOING TO DIE!”
Immediately, he started throwing all the books and magazines out of the room.
He yelled, “NO MORE OF THESE BOOKS, NO MORE OF THESE MAGAZINES and NO MORE LISTENING TO STORIES FROM FRIENDS.”
“You can do this!” he said as he comforted me. “We’ll figure out how to do this together.”
Immediately I felt safe and I started to research about different methods of coping with pain during labor.
I found a positive natural childbirth course (HypnoBirthing) and each week I became more and more confident that I was doing the best thing for my baby.
By the time the big day arrived, I had stopped asking myself “Can I REALLY Do This?” and replaced it with “I’m SOOOOO looking forward to birthing my baby”
And … GUESS WHAT? … It was the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!
Honey Rose was born in the water at Manly Hospital. And… two years later I did it again!
Since then, I have become truly passionate about assisting other women in overcoming fears of childbirth and getting the right information, so they can birth their babies naturally and comfortably.
And to answer your question: Can YOU really do this?
The answer is YES definitely. While all women, babies and pregnancies are different, there are a few key things that ALL mothers can do to give themselves the best chance of having the most comfortable birth possible.
The first thing is to GET EDUCATED and enroll in a positive and natural childbirth course.
Trust me! You’ll be glad you did when it comes to your baby’s birthday.
I’m really looking forward to sharing more tips and exercises here on www.BabiesAndToddlers.com so look out for my articles each month.
And … if you have any questions (no matter how silly you think they are) or topics you’d like me to cover just let me know.
Enjoy your pregnancy!
