We love Central Gardens in Merrylands. 2 great playgrounds & lots of open grass for kicking a ball around, tennis courts, bbqs and tables, it makes a great picnic area. We love taking our bikes and riding around the reserve on the paths. Kangaroos and other animals to look at. The stepping stones over the pond are definitely one of the kids faves as is feeding the ducks. & we usually end with a “performance” by them on the little amphitheatre stage.

Santa Rosa park on Quarry Road Ryde. Small park but has a community food garden and a community native plant nursery that specialises in growing plants native to the Ryde area. Interesting to show the preschoolers and toddlers.

My husband and I are quite happy when we went to PappaRich Chastwood the other day. The place has a little room/ playground for little kids. It was very rare for us as a family to enjoy a meal and coffee there. The other place is Alexandria the Ground – they have baby animals so the little one is happy to see them. As for park – my boy always enjoy the bi-centennial park. They have everything there for kids to play with and big grass area to run and to play ball.

Purcell park at the end of Australia avenue in Matraville is a really nice, fenced park surrounded by bikes tracks and ample parking. Great for family day outs and picnics with lots of shade from huge trees! It’s in a very residential pocket but so accessible via 3 different roads that lead into it. We love it!

Maroubra Beach Playground, Beach and skate Park.

the playground is ideal for children age 5 and under. The huge shadecloth sails give heaps of shade and the reserve around the playground is large with BBQs,and plenty of places to ride a bike or trike. For older brothers and sisters, there is a big skate park near the playground. Nearest takeaway coffee is the cafe in pavilion beside the playground.

Hurstville Oval Velodrome. This playground is fenced, has toilets, is suitable for toddlers, has sun shade, has seats, has tables, has a BBQ, is near a bikepath. But best of all, its one of Australia’s premier cricket sites, the home of St George District Cricket Club. Others sports played at the oval include athletics, cycling, rugby league and soccer.

    Ryde Park, Blaxland Rd, Ryde.

Really great play equipment. Grassy area to sit. Basketball court. Walking track. Toilets. Although no change tables…

There is a great cafe nearby called The Groundskeeper Cafe. They sell fantastic wraps that are good to take away and eat on the grass. The eat in Middle Eastern menu is delicious too. They also sell fantastic house baked goodies. They have a little pool that kids can dip their hands into.

As you can tell, the reason why I love Ryde park so because it’s great for the kids and also for parents too!
