As a mum to a baby and toddler, I find it hard to find the time to keep fit and stay in shape. Being a parent can be extremely demanding with late nights and hungry babies often getting in the way.
When you do find the time, the options for mums seem very limited. Personal trainers can be expensive and the gym is often a lonely place for non gym bunnies that prefer to train in groups. There’s also the question of picking the type of training that suits you best. Running, strength work, core training, sand running and stretching all have their benefits but what’s best for you ? And what’s going to help you achieve your weight loss, toning and fitness goals in 2013 ?
Well a group of mums in Manly have found the answer!
The mums at the Manly Beach Running Club (aka The Superstars!) have started a morning running session specifically for mums in Manly and the surrounding area. They have clubbed together to share the cost of a personal trainer that specialises in weight loss and toning. This gives them the benefit of having an experienced coach on hand to ask questions and advice without paying for the cost of a PT session individually.
They meet every week day Monday to Friday at Manly Surf Club at 5.30am. Training starts with a warm up run along the coast past the beautiful Cabbage Tree Bay to Shelly Beach, followed by a run back past Manly Surf Club and onto the sand up to Queenscliff beach. As the sun pops up over the ocean they begin a short session of core and strength training which incorporates several exercises designed to target legs, bums and tums.
At around 6.15am they jog back to the Surf Club, finishing the session at 6.30am, just in time for a quick coffee before heading home for breakfast.
The Superstars running group has a fun and friendly environment. Mums help to keep each other motivated which means that they stay consistent and push each other to reach their fitness and weight loss goals.
Fitness levels in the group range from beginners to intermediate with a couple of Superstars even training for a marathon in 2013!
Manly Beach Running Club Superstars have an exclusive offer to all Babies & Toddlers users. They are offering a free group session AND a free personal training session to all of you. Simply mention Babies & Toddlers when you contact head trainer Joe Ward to take up this offer. There is no contract or monthly membership so you can simply turn up whenever you want to go for a run. After the initial free session, group sessions are $10 per session and Personal Training is $80 per session.
With a new baby I am up at 5.30 anyway but if the early morning puts you off, then evening group fitness classes are also available. I am having my first session on Wednesday…wish me luck!
